Website speed and conversion: where to start

A fast experience reduces friction. Focus on the visitor’s real journey, not an isolated score.

Look at the first screen

Main copy, imagery and CTA should appear without depending on heavy effects. Set image dimensions to prevent shifts. Load essential content first and secondary features on demand.

Test the real flow

Open menus, use filters, complete forms and recover from errors on a small screen. Performance includes interaction response and visual stability, not just initial loading.

Measure with context

Compare measurements under similar conditions and follow real-user data when available. Conversion changes can have multiple causes; do not automatically attribute every difference to speed.
